Queer only hours: grow, learn, and heal together in queer community.

Zach Heesch – Rivermark Credit Union

“We LOVED IT! We’re already talking about when we can set up another day!  Love the regenerative farming practices that are happening! Love the way you all built the farm with the wisdom of generations of farming from around the world! Truly a magical place and we will all be back for sure!

Are you looking for a fun, connective, meaningful experience? One where you can make friends, learn, and show up exactly as you are while while doing something truly impactful for your community?

The benefits of volunteering at the farm are endless.

Find Community

We have a beautiful, diverse community at the farm. Folks who have never had a sense of belonging feel like they’ve found their place for the first time in their lives. Make friends and develop strong bonds that will support you in and out of the farm.

“We had an amazing team experience at Kindness Farm. We can’t wait to come back.

When volunteers come to the farm the first thing we tell them is: “give only for as long as that giving feels nourishing to you. When the experience stops giving to you, stop, rest, or leave.”

Sometimes volunteers come to the farm to just sit with the land and rest. This philosophy has fostered a community where no one gives from a place of sacrifice – a true, safe space where we can all feel supported by the land and each other.

“I’m so glad I bought my team out to Kindness Farm. We feel so fortunate to have had this opportunity.

What does a volunteer day look like?

Arrive at the farm

Unless you’re a seasoned volunteer, we asked that you arrive at the posted started time. However, you can stay for however long you’d like!

Welcome circle

When you first arrive, we’ll gather in a welcome circle where we’ll ground, stretch, connect to the land, and have opportunities for some group sharing.

Interactive, Learning Farm Tour

We then go on a farm tour where we walk through the different areas of the farm: our community garden, prop house, high tunnel, field, food forest, apiary, goat pen. We’ll explain the principles of regenerative agriculture and why they're so important, and touch, taste, and smell various things that are growing.

Service activity

We’ll then start the day’s task! There are different types of tasks like weeding, woodchipping, pruning, planting, etc. We’ll pick the most important task for that day, provide you with gloves and the needed tools, and get to work! We also have options for any ability level and physical limitations. We’ll also include a break where you can have a snack and wander the grounds!

Closing circle

After the day’s task, we’ll gather again in a closing circle to share our experiences and closing activities.

Additional Options

  • You’re welcome to schedule a private team meeting, or a shared meal, before, during, or after the volunteer day on our beautiful grounds.

Alicia Gottard - AmeriCorps Vista

“What we liked about it is that it fits with our mission of assisting to alleviate poverty. That it had opportunities for all skill levels and abilities.  The ease of organizing the opportunity is fantastic. Top it off with the location and your friendly, well-coordinated and knowledgeable staff and we definitely have a winner of a volunteer opportunity.

“Volunteering at Kindness Farm was such a great experience for everyone on the team! Bear did an amazing job stewarding us through the event. I loved learning more about regenerative farming and microecosystems, and it was so nice to be outside working with growing things in a way that will benefit the community. Thank you for your help coordinating this, and please thank Bear on our behalf for the wonderful work they did!

Kindness Farm is an immigrant, refugee, queer led community farm that focuses on helping people who face food insecurity.

We’re an almost entirely volunteer run farm that teaches people of all ages how to grow food sustainably, on a limited budget. We also donate 100% of the healthy, nutrient-dense produce we grow to folks experiencing food insecurity.

We work with historically underserved communities: immigrants, refugees, LGBTQIIA2S+, folks with low-income, BIPOC, & disabled folks.
